The USA will put pressure on the FRG on the issue of the “Nord Stream-2” project
During the talks at the G7 ministerial meeting in London, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will put pressure on German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. He will once again demand to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
This was told at a special briefing dedicated to the train of the head of the State Department, acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Ricoeur. He added that the two countries will discuss many other issues during bilateral negotiations.
“I think we will separately negotiate with Germany in a bilateral format. Nord Stream 2 remains a problem. You heard this from the president, from the secretary of state, from officials. And we will continue to make it very clear to Germany our views on this project that it must be stopped, ” noted the diplomat.
The implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project cannot be made dependent on the situation around Alexei Navalny. This was stated in an interview with the Funke media group by the Minister of Economy and Energy of the Federal Republic of Germany Peter Altmeier.
“We should not link the completion of Nord Stream 2 with the Navalny case. We must evaluate and decide on the construction and completion of the pipeline independently of individual cases, “Altmeier said.
” In 50 years, gas supplies have never been a political weapon in East-West relations. This was to the benefit of the security of our gas supply, ”he stressed. “We have to weigh everything very carefully before we deviate from this line,” the minister said.
Germany is not going to abandon the Nord Stream-2 project
At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Economy of Germany called for ensuring the observance of Ukraine's interests after the completion of the gas pipeline. According to him, “the transit of gas through Ukraine will continue after the completion of Nord Stream 2.
“ In addition, thanks to the construction of so-called terminals for receiving liquefied natural gas, we will make sure that at any time we will be independent from pipeline supplies if Russia tries to exert political pressure through gas, “Altmaier noted.
Referring to the possibility of introducing new restrictions against Russia due to the situation around Navalny, he noted that “the decision on sanctions should be made at the level of the entire EU.” : ///
