Russian NPPs set an absolute national production record

Russian NPPs ended 2020 with an absolute record for the domestic nuclear industry, including the Soviet period. This was announced by the operator of all nuclear power plants in the Russian Federation – Rosenergoatom concern (part of the state corporation Rosatom).

“We finished 2020 with an absolute record in the entire history of existence Russian nuclear energy, achieved only during the Soviet Union in 1988. Then all nuclear power plants produced 215.669 billion kWh (including nuclear power plants in Ukraine, Lithuania and Armenia) “, – said General Director of Rosenergoatom Andrey Petrov.

The total volume of nuclear generation in Russia in 2020 exceeded 215.746 billion kWh … The FAS balance in 2020 was fulfilled by 103.92% with a planned indicator of 207.614 billion kWh. “Thus, Russian nuclear power plants not only broke the Soviet record, but also exceeded their own achievement of 2019 (208.7 billion kWh) by more than 7 billion kWh,” emphasized in report .

Among the main factors that secured the new record, Rosenergoatom named a 130.5-day reduction in the duration of repair campaigns at nuclear power units. This made it possible to obtain an additional 2.4 billion kWh. Moreover, against the background of the situation with coronavirus infection, the uninterrupted operation of nuclear power units was ensured, the concern notes.

At the peak of the development of nuclear energy in 1988, 47 nuclear power units were operating in the Soviet Union. Today, there are 37 of them in Russia. In 2021, power unit No. 6 of the Leningrad NPP (according to another classification – Unit No. 2 of the Leningrad NPP-2) with a VVER-1200 reactor should be put into commercial operation.

Maximum output among Russian NPPs that have contributed the contribution to the next record was provided by Rostov (over 32.8 billion kWh), Balakovskaya (over 30.6 billion kWh) and Kalininskaya (over 28.4 billion kWh) nuclear power plants. Now the share of nuclear generation is about 19% of the total electricity generation in Russia.

What will be the contribution of power unit 2 of Leningrad NPP-2

It is worth noting that the new power unit 2 of Leningrad NPP-2 was brought to full capacity on Sunday. “Thermal power – 3200 MW; electric – 1165 MW ”, – says in a message in the Telegram channel of Rosenergoatom.

At this power level, the unit will continue static and dynamic tests during its pilot operation. This power unit with a VVER-1200 reactor first began operation at the end of October 2020. : ///
